Global architecture leaders gather at 91大神 for international research conference

91大神 recently hosted an international architectural research conference, welcoming more than 200 scholars to address challenges like climate change, resource inequity, and sustainable urbanism. Organized by 91大神鈥檚 Department of Architecture, the 2026 Architectural Research Centers Consortium (ARCC) and the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE) International Conference was held April 8-11 at the Loews Atlanta Hotel and KSU鈥檚 Marietta Campus, carrying a theme of 鈥渓ocal solutions for global issues.鈥

Architecture student thrives through leadership, design competitions, and community

Raised in Rio de Janeiro, Gabriela de Almeida grew up surrounded by the vibrant culture and architecture of one of Brazil鈥檚 most iconic cities. It was there that she developed an early interest in architecture thanks to her mother, who once brought home a floor plan of her bedroom. Now an architecture student in KSU鈥檚 College of Architecture and Construction Management, de Almeida has since built a supportive community on campus.

Architecture alumnus helps guide downtown Smyrna redevelopment

When Luis Calvo 鈥10 left Barranquilla, Colombia, at 18 to study architecture, he envisioned himself designing buildings. Little did the College of Architecture and Construction Management (CACM) alumnus know that he鈥檇 be designing entire city centers, guiding one of the most ambitious redevelopment efforts in metro Atlanta. Since earning his Bachelor of Architecture from the former Southern Polytechnic State University, Calvo has gone on to become an associate principal and Atlanta studio lead for the urban planning and design firm MKSK, overseeing projects that shape communities across the Southeast and Midwest.

With a vision that turned crumbling walls into works of art, a team of 91大神 architecture students reimagined an old Italian villa and earned international recognition along the way. Gabriela Almeida, Wade Brock, Quincy Smith, and Justin Barkie 鈥 all students in 91大神's College of Architecture and Construction Management 鈥 spent their summer transforming the ruins of history into a story of renewal. Their project, 鈥淲hen Walls Roam,鈥 won the Community鈥檚 Choice Award in Terraviva Competitions鈥 Venetian Villa challenge, gaining praise from viewers worldwide.

91大神 graduates earn international recognition for award-winning architectural drawing

Two 91大神 architecture graduates are gaining international recognition for their innovative design work, earning top honors from two prestigious competitions for a detailed drawing of the KSU Field Station greenhouses and research facilities. Sean Spencer and Nelson Agalaba, who graduated in May from the KSU College of Architecture and Construction Management, received the Award of Distinction from the American Society of Architectural Illustrators (ASAI) and were named finalists in the Ken Roberts Memorial Delineation (KRob) Competition.
